Spot- Fixing in IPL

Srinivasan: We can’t control bookies

Chennai: Following the arrest of the three Rajasthan Royals players for their involvement in spot-fixing, BCCI President N Srinivasan made it clear that he didn't have the resources to check the menace, after an emergency working committee meeting here on Sunday.

When asked if the tainted trio would be banned for life, he made it clear that the players could be punished only after Ravi Sawani- BCCI's anti-corruption head, submits a report to the disciplinary committee. Srinivasan stuck to the 'innocent until proven guilty' line, claiming the process had to be as fair as possible, while adding that strict action would be taken.

"Ravi Sawani has been appointed as the commissioner to inquire into allegations against these players. His report will be submitted to the BCCI disciplinary committee."

He also said that player agents will henceforth have to be accredited to the BCCI, and that there will be a ACSU official attached to every IPL team. Player access too will be restricted during matches.

While defending the IPL, the BCCI President reiterated that the actions of the three players should not be used to attack the tournament itself.

Srinivasan also revealed that the Rajasthan Royals will be filing a case against S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan.

Amongst others attending the meeting were former India captain Ravi Shastri (BCCI technical committee representative) and board secretary Sanjay Jagdale while IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla, IPL governing council member Arun Jaitley, and former India leg-spinner Anil Kumble joined the meeting through a video conference.
